Domain Hunter Gatherer needs to be installed on your computer, or you can use it as Firefox portable. Each license can be installed on as many machines as you like but will only run on a single machine at a time. Each machine can run multiple instances if you have many jobs you wish to work on at once.

After opening, you will see it has three main modules. Those are Domain Auction Hunter, Web 2.0 Hunter, and Expired Domain Hunter.

NOTE: Even though you don’t need shared or private proxies to use Domain Hunter Gatherer, they are still highly recommended. Proxies allow you to check the quality of expired domains more accurately. Private or semi-private proxies usually provide more dependable, updated results than public proxies.

SettingsTab

Here are options in the settings tab explained:

–Dom Detailer API Settings: Dom Detailer combines Moz and Majestic. There is no limit on the API requests quota. You can buy credits, for example, 50,000 credits and be able to check 50,000 sites for their Moz and Majestic statistics.

If you have the Professional version of Domain Hunter Gatherer, you get 50,000 credits for free. You can also buy credits from Dom Detailer site and manually paste your API key in the “API (non-Pro only)” field. Having Dom Detailer credits is the preferred method, which makes setting up Moz and Majestic accounts unnecessary.

–Shared Count API Settings: Shared Count lets Domain Hunter Gatherer show social statistics of the domains you’ve found. This includes Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, and other popular social networks. You can make up to 1,000 Shared API requests daily using the free version.

 

 

–Moz API Settings: You don’t need to set up a Moz account if you already have Dom Detailer credits which you either purchased from Dom Detailer site or have from the DHG Pro plan. If you don’t, you can enter your Moz Access ID and Moz Secret Key if you have a paid Moz account.

–Ahrefs API Settings: Unfortunately, neither Dom Detailer nor Domain Hunter Gatherer offers statistics for Ahrefs. If you want this information, you can enter your API if you already have a paid account with Ahrefs.

–Majestic API Settings: You don’t need to set up a Majestic account if you already have Dom Detailer credits. If you have Dom Detailer or the Domain Hunter Gatherer Professional plan, you’ll receive Majestic statistics. If not, you’ll need to enter your API key to access this data if you already have a paid account with Majestic.

 

Proxy Settings

Just like the majority of other online marketing tools, Domain Hunter Gatherer relies heavily on proxies to perform better and faster. Just paste them into the “Primary Proxies” section. You can also use the “Secondary Proxies” section if you wish. As for the settings below the proxies:

–Continually Update From File: Save your proxies in one file and then import that file into Domain Hunter Gatherer, if you want to manage these proxies externally. While the software is working, you can go in and change, add or remove proxies from that file as you see fit. Domain Hunter Gatherer will then use the new updated proxy list automatically.

–Test Primary Proxies: This will open a new window where you can test your primary proxies. You can see if they are anonymous if they are working and check their latency.

–Auction Searching: This function allows you to choose whether or not you want Domain Hunter Gatherer to use proxies when looking for domain auctions.

–Quality Checking: This option allows you to decide if you want the software to use proxies when it’s reviewing domain metrics such as Majestic, Moz, and others.

–Searching: You can choose whether or not you want Domain Hunter Gatherer to use proxies when it performs searches on search engines to find quality expired web domains and Web 2.0 accounts.

–Expired Domain and Web 2.0 Checking: This function allows you to decide if you want to use proxies when checking Web 2.0 profiles and expired domains.

There is also an option for “General Proxies Settings” at the bottom of the “Settings” tab. There you can find options like:

— Load File Delay x seconds: this is regarding the “Continually Update From File” option. This setting can be modified to adjust the length of time that must expire before Domain Hunter Gatherer reloads proxies from a particular file.

That’s the “Settings” menu in a nutshell. Once you’ve made your changes, click on the “Apply and Save Settings” button. From there, you can go to the “Advanced Settings” tab.

 

Advanced Settigs Tab

The next step is to configure Domain Hunter Gatherer’s advanced settings. Here are options in the “General Settings” box:

–Auction Search Threads: This is the number of threads that Domain Hunter Gatherer will use when it’s looking for domain auctions. The current default is 5, which should be perfectly fine for most users.

–Search Engine Searcher Threads: This is the number of threads that the software will use to conduct searches on search engines. The default number of threads should be three, but this can be changed according to the number and quality of proxies.

If you have good private proxies, you can go as high as one search thread per proxy. Having 5-10 threads should suffice for most users. Your proxies won’t get burned out, and Domain Hunter Gatherer will still conduct the searches in a reasonable amount of time.

–Availability Checker Threads: This is the number of threads that will be used to check to see if expired Web 2.0 pages and domains are available for registration. Setting this number at 50 should work just fine for most users.

 

 

–Details Checking Threads: This is the number of queries that Domain Hunter Gatherer will use to obtain domain metrics. The default is set at five threads, but you can double this amount if you have good quality proxies. Increasing the number of threads will also speed up the process of searching for expired Web 2.0 accounts and domain sites.

–Connection Timeout: This is the number of seconds that would have to pass before a proxy will be considered failed.

–Search Delay: This is the number of seconds passed between searches. You can set this for 60 seconds.

–Name Instance: This is just the name of the Domain Hunter Gatherer instance that you’ve opened. It will appear on the top right, before the software version. This is helpful if you have multiple instances of Domain Hunter Gatherer so that you know which instance is doing what. You can even name the instances according to the purpose of the domains search, keywords, or other conditions.

–Minimize to Search Tray: This option lets you decide if you want the program to be minimized to your search tray.

–Max Pages Per Level: This is the maximum number of pages that you allow Domain Hunter Gatherer to scan per level. Leaving this at the default setting should be enough to avoid any “ran out of memory” exceptions.

–To the right of the “General Settings” box is the “Bad Words List.” This is just what it sounds like. If you check “Don’t crawl pages with any bad words,” Domain Hunter Gatherer will ignore any pages that have keywords on the bad keywords list.

If you enable “Don’t check domain availability with bad words,” software will skip checking availability for domains that contain any of the bad words in their domain names. At the bottom is the “Use Default Bad Words List” button. This option fills the field with the default bad words that Domain Hunter Gatherer has found in its searches.

I haven’t used any bad words so far, because I filter my domains after they appear in the results table. Using the bad words list could expedite the search, but it could also mean missing out on some potentially good domain names because you added keywords to the bad words list that could be part of a larger word meaning something else.

After you’ve adjusted your Advanced Settings to your liking, click the “Apply and Save Settings” button to keep those settings. Domain Hunter Gatherer is already preconfigured well, so if you’re not sure what you’re doing, you may not need to change your Advanced Settings at all.

 

Work Log & Help And Support Tab

The “Work Log” tab only shows bugs and errors. Most of the time, it won’t have anything to report. The “Help and Support” tab won’t switch to a screen once clicked, but it will show the following menu:

– Guides: This option takes you to pages that allow you to watch basic Domain Hunter Gatherer user guides. The two sub-menus that appear are Getting Started and Video Guides.

– Contact Support: If you have a question about a certain function or feel like something looks off, you can send a quick message to Domain Hunter Gatherer support. They typically respond quickly. You can contact them by using either Members Help Desk (these requests usually receive the fastest replies) or email.

Other options are Abou, Frequently Asked Questions, Advanced, and Log Out.

DHG has several ways to find expired domains. I am not sure how they are called, but I will call them modules. You can buy expired domains with traffic using Domain Auction Hunter, Web 2.0 Hunter, and Expired Domain Hunter.

1. Domain Auction Hunter

With so many different auction sites, finding the right one can be a daunting task. Domain Auction Hunter makes things easier. It brings all the auction sites in a single place. You don’t need to spend any more time searching for different sites manually. Domain Auction Hunter brings it all to you on your dashboard. I have not used this module to purchase or find any domains as my goal was to find expired domains. I did few quick searches, and it really does its purpose.

• All auction sites and domains listed on that sites can be seen using the DHG dashboard. No need to check each site separately.
• Search for domains on auctions by keyword. You will get a list of all the domains put up for sale on all auction sites based on your search criteria.
• You will see stats for each domain, like domain age, Moz stats, Majestic stats, and social stats.
• You can filter domains.
• Results with available domains are quick.

 

2. Web 2.0 Hunter

Companies looking to improve their rankings know how important it is to have links from high authority 2.0 websites. Sites with good social media backgrounds and established backlink profiles are generally seen as more reputable than those who don’t.

MY EXPERIENCE FROM USING EXPIRED DOMAIN HUNTER

This module is one that I tested the most, and that interests me the most. Finding expired domains with good profile backlink automatically and also being able to filter and define search and receive Moz and Majestic stats, is excellent.

The process is straightforward. You can enter one or more keywords if you use Hunt From Keywords option, or one or more sites if you use Hunt From Websites(s) or Reverse Hunt Domains option.

Searching can take a very long time here. It all depends on a number of sites or keywords you input and the crawl level you choose. It can take from an hour to days or even a whole week.

While searching is active, I experienced a load on my computer processor would become higher. Support told me that this might be because of my antivirus. I use Avast and Advanced System Care and noticed that the load would be lower when Advanced System Care was disabled. So what support told might be true.

While in the beginning, DHG was resource-intensive on my computer, later I didn’t experience those issues anymore. Maybe update fixed it, perhaps me turning off ASC when DHG active, or something third.

I also noticed my internet speed would be decreased, and my browsing would be much slower when the search was in progress. I was told this too could be due to my antivirus program, but as much as I tried sorting that and disabling my antivirus, this would still occur.

I have made dozens of hunt from keywords and website searches in this module but didn’t find nearly enough expired domains that fit my criteria as I wanted.

For me, the problem is that you still need to do manual work. You get a list of expired domains, and you can set filters. You even get  Moz and Majestic stats for finding expired domains (I have compared those stats from my Majestic and Moz account, and it seems stats shown in DHG are correct).

But you still have to compare those stats and using common sense distinct good from bad expired domains and manually check backlink profiles and maybe even Wayback Machine to see if the site was not used for spam. You need to check what content was displayed on-site, which sites link to that domain, etc.

The best option might be using VPS for this module. Unfortunately, sometimes no matter which module you will be using (even Easy Expired Domains tool) for finding expired domains, you will get results that particular domain is expired. But when you manually check, you will see that is not true.

 

SUMMARY:
