WordPress offers many different paid and free backup plugins. It is only a matter of you choosing which one you want to use.
Most free backup plugins offer enough features to backup your website while premium bring more advanced features, real-time or on-demand backups and more storage for your backups.

Backup WordPress Site by WPvivid Review
Backup WordPress Site by WPvivid is an amazing plugin that makes it easier for you to keep your data safe and secure. It automatically stores all of your work onto its cloud storage, and allows you to restore all or any of it easily.
You can store backups to Google Drive, Dropbox, Amazon S3, Microsoft OneDrive, etc. You have the option of performing the backup yourself or scheduling plugin to do it for you.
It also gives you the added convenience of being able to restore your site from your website admin dashboard. WPvivid has stated that this plugin has been tested on numerous dedicated and shared hosting plans, and can be used just as easily on any other hosting platform (see best affordable WordPress hosting providers).
Installation and Settings
You install the plugin like any other WordPress plugin. When your activation process is complete, head on to set up the plugin. Go to your WordPress dashboard, and from there, to WPvivid.
There are five tabs: Backup & Restore, Settings, Remote Storage, Website Info, and Logs.
1. Backup and Restore Tab
Here you can manually backup Database + Files (Entire website), All Files (Exclude Database) or Only Database. You can also use this tab to send your backups to Remote Storage or save it to your Local Directory. In your Local Directory, the backups will be saved under a file name called “wpvividbackups”.
If you want to rename this file, just go to Rename Directory, which is located under the Backup Manually heading. By clicking the Backup Now, you can generate a local backup. This backup allows you to Download, Delete, Restore, and Lock backup.
2. Settings Tab
You have the following options under the Settings Tab:
- Compress Files Every xMB
- Exclude the files which is larger than xMB
- PHP script execution timeout
- Backup Folder Name
- Remove out-of-date backups
- Enable backup schedule
- Choose How to Archive Your Backups
- Email Report
- Clean Junk
- Export / import settings
In the first part, you will have options to enter the size of files that you want to compress, exclude, execute PHP script, etc. It also lets you have the option to calculate the size of your files and folders before they are backed up and the number of back-ups that you want to retain.
You can easily choose the desired number for each of these options depending on your need. If you scroll down the page, you will have a field where you can name your backup folder.
This is where you can delete old backups. Be careful though, once you do this, you cannot undo the deletion.
Going further down, there are more options that allow you to do other things like archiving your backups, emailing backup reports, and and scheduling backups.
So if you check the first box, it lets you schedule your backup as per the web server timings. This feature starts to work as soon as you have your first visitor, as it saves any comments or likes that your visitor leaves.
You can also choose how to file your archives. Only archive without compressing allows you to file them without compressing them into smaller files.
This option is recommended if your site is hosted in a shared hosting environment. This option also saves your CPU usage.
Compress and archive is recommended for those who have great CPU usage needs, as well as dedicated hosting and VSP. Below this, is an option that allows you to receive an email from the plugin every time backup is made.
If you want to receive an email every time the plugin performs a backup, then click on this option. It also gives you a choice of deleting junk and export/import your WPvivid settings on/from your computer.
3. Remote Storage Tab
Remote storage tab gives you choice where you want your backup to end up stored. There are seven different options available. Those are DropBox, Google Drive, SFTP, Amazon S3, DigitalOcean spaces, Microsoft OneDrive, and FTP.
So if you are using the FTP as your option, you need to enter your unique name, FTP server, login, password, and your user directory. Under these fields, there is also an option to set FTP as your default storage option.
In order to use FTP as your default storage, click the Test and Add option. I am not going into the details of each of these storage options individually.
You can choose the one you are using and enter the relevant information in the fields provided to you. After completing your input click on the Test and Add button to save your settings.
4. Website Info Tab
Website info tab is to help you debug any problems that you face on your website. There are two ways to do it.
You can input your email address into the Send Debug Information to Us button, which will put your plugin to work and send the plugin support team all the error information that you are facing.
This is only an option for you if you have installed SMPT on your site. From there the support team will work on fixing the problem and email you when it is fixed.
If you do not have SMPT, then you will have to follow second option. This next option lets you download and view the error information straight onto your computer.
From there, you can email it to the plugin support team and they will look at it and try to give you directions on how to fix it.
5. Log Tab
This tab contains all the information about your backup. It tells you when the backup was performed and the remote storage the backup was sent to.
The download button next to your storage destination button lets you download your files to your PC. It even lets you delete a particular log if you want.

Great tool. Previously I’ve used manual content backup (standard WordPress tool), which is not that great. Especially with images and theme compatibility
