Wix vs Webs Comparison – Which One Should You Choose?

In this Wix vs Webs article, I will compare these two platforms in great detail to help you make the right choice and decide which platform is the best for your needs.

Despite some surface-based similarities, Wix and Webs have significant differences. What are those differences, and which one is better? Well, let’s find out together.

UPDATE: Webs is now shut down. Read more in this article.

Wix vs Webs

First of all, Webs can offer better performance, yet lacks advanced eCommerce features, and its themes feel really dated. While Wix gives you complete control over your designs but is more expensive and a bit harder to master.

Wix is a website builder with an intuitive drag-and-drop editor that allows you to personalize its modern templates to your heart’s content. Such extreme customization can be done because the editor lets you freely place elements anywhere on the website.

Furthermore, Wix has over 500 templates, which should be enough for most users. Yet, in a rare case where you are still craving more, there is also Artificial Design Intelligence or ADI that can automatically create a site for you.

On the other hand, we have Webs – a very easy-to-use website builder with a simple interface as well as a drag-and-drop editor. This makes it a great option even for those with no web developing background.

Unfortunately, this platform lags way behind its competitor because it has an editor that feels a bit outdated. However, it still has more than 400 templates geared towards businesses and entrepreneurs alike.

It is clear to see that the only thing Webs can use to compete against Wix is its ease of use. Wix is simply superior in the quality and quantity of its features compared to Webs.

It feels like both of the builders are reaching too far out to opposite sides of the spectrum. The outdated simplicity of Webs is precisely why it falls behind Wix that much. And at the same time, the overdone modernity of Wix makes it too complex for new users, keeping them from reaching their full potential.

Now, let’s take a closer look at this Webs vs Wix comparison as well as review their pricing, ease of use, features, and performance.

Ease Of Use

In this aspect, Webs seems to be the winner. Yet this victory feels vain, as most of the Webs ease of use comes from a simple and outdated design and only a few functions. Meanwhile, Wix’s complexity comes from the builder having a lot of different features on offer.

Wix classic editor is simple to use. However, if you decide to use the Wix ADI, most of the complexity for Wix users is dealt with, and the interface is simplified.

Setting up a website with Wix takes just a few minutes or a little longer, depending on which you choose when building your page – Wix Editor or ADI.

Wix Editor is a very powerful and easy-to-use tool that allows you to create websites as if they were made from Lego pieces, dragging and stacking everywhere you want. But if you don’t really know anything about design, this freedom can be more of a burden.

While this editor is very easy to use, it has a lot of on-screen tools and options that can be overwhelming to a user at first glance. It will take a reasonable amount of time to learn to master this interface fully.

For those who have no time to waste, there is also Wix ADI. This tool helps create a website quickly based on some questions you answer.

It’s perfect for a beginner who needs to set up a modern website in no time. However, the ADI interface is less flexible than the original Wix Editor, as it has no drag-and-drop functionality.

Webs has a different approach. It offers a very simple drag-and-drop editor, maybe a little too simple for some people.

Webs’ Site Builder, which is what the editor is called on the provider’s website, has a very intuitive interface. You can drag-and-drop any element you want on the template to incorporate it. Anyone without coding skills can create a website in minutes with this editor.

My experience using the Webs.com builder left me somewhat disappointed. Of course, it is easy to use when you can’t really do much with it.

In addition to the Site Builder, Webs has a Dashboard where you can manage everything related to domains, SEO, statistics, and form submissions. It even includes a checklist for beginners to know what steps to follow in creating the website.

WINNER: Webs is clearly easier to use overall because it is just simple does not have much to offer. If you want an experience more welcoming for new users, you are better of using Wix ADI.

Design & Templates

Wix has 500+ templates to choose from. Their style ranges from personal to eCommerce specific themes. Webs has 400+ templates, categorized into around 20 different business industries. Both of the platforms provide mobile-responsive templates.

Wix has a solid selection of professional design templates. But keep in mind that these templates will be available if you use the traditional editor and not the ADI.

When you choose a template with the Wix Editor, you get it as a base to further work on as a general guideline. But it can be fully customized, and nothing is set in stone.

However, if you decide to use ADI, you get to fill out a short questionnaire on what your website will be about. The Artificial Design Intelligence will then create an automatically generated template based on your input.

Also, you don’t lose all of the creative freedom with ADI. You can still choose what color schemes you’d like more from several given options and then further customize your website.

I didn’t like the fact that after you choose the template and publish your website, Wix doesn’t let you go back and change it. So my advice is to make your decision thoughtfully unless you like extra work.

Webs template gallery is also pretty huge. It has 400+ pre-designed templates covering more than 20 industries.

However, unlike Wix, all of the templates on Webs.com aren’t available immediately for free. You’ll have to choose either Enhanced or Pro membership plans to get access to the full assortment.

One of the biggest downsides of Webs templates is that they look really old. The themes seem to have aged like fine milk rather than wine. If you remember the fixed-width simple design that was popular a decade ago, well, all of Webs templates will be right up your alley.

WINNER: Webs templates can be useful for personal websites or small businesses. While Wix design allows more options and customizations in comparison, so it is great for bigger projects and multi-faceted websites.

Business Features

Naturally, for any company to function full-force, SEO is essential to get noticed online. Moreover, if you want to sell products on your website, you will also need eCommerce. Lucky for you, Webs and Wix have that all covered as both have their features tailored towards businesses.

SEO & Marketing

Wix has an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) management system suitable for all audiences. This tool is available for all plans. After answering a series of questions, it can even suggest an action plan to improve it for you. Webs also has an advanced built-in tool called SEO Booster, only available on their VIP membership plan.

Let’s start with Wix and see what it can offer to boost and manage your SEO.

Apart from SEO, Wix offers other marketing integrations like Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Facebook Pixel, and an all-in-one marketing solution called Ascend.

Ascend helps you plan, manage, and monitor your marketing strategy in one place with, of course, an additional cost.

Although these are additional expenses – you get to use functions like, for example, email campaigns, forms, social media post sharing, and video ads.

Webs does not fall behind that much and provides you with an SEO Booster tool, which sadly can only be accessed if you are subscribed to any of the premium plans. This feature can also be bought as a standalone add-on.

Another feature worth mentioning in this section is the Webs analytics tool. You get access to it with any of the Webs premium plans.

However, you need to buy the Enhanced or Pro package for more advanced stats like insight into where the traffic comes from, what pages are more popular, and which campaigns work better.

WINNER: Both Webs and Wix provide all the necessary tools to manage your website’s SEO. Yet Wix comes out on top because it guides you with a simple-to-follow checklist and has just a bit more advanced features to offer.

eCommerce

Wix is full of eCommerce options. Wix allows you to create an online store in the ”Business & eCommerce” packages, and it is meant for small to midsize businesses. On the other hand, Webs allows decent eCommerce features with the Pro or Enhanced plan, ideal for small online stores.

Wix allows you to sell both physical and digital goods. You can receive payments using PayPal, AliPay, or Wix Payments gateways.

The products in your store are easy to manage directly from the Dashboard. From here, you also can add, delete, or edit each of the items separately.

Wix easily gives enough tools to easily control all parts of the sales process – add products, manage inventory, and create marketing campaigns.

On Webs, Pro and Enhanced plans allow you to create an online store, but only the last one unlocks unlimited products. Online store administration is done directly from the Site Builder, being able to add or modify products and categories.

Like everything on Webs, the eCommerce system itself looks very old and outdated. However, the product forms are quite intuitive and easy to use. So while it might not look very modern, it’s a functioning tool that will get your store up and running.

What I hated was the fact that the only payment gateway allowed on Webs is PayPal. This limits the options you can offer for a customer, limiting the userbase.

Overall, eCommerce-wise, Wix is a bit more valuable option for your money. Thanks to its versatile payment system and flexible layout that helps attract potential buyers. Webs, on the other hand, has a bit more restrictive eCommerce solutions but still allows you to create a functioning store.

WINNER: Wix comes out on top when it comes to business features. It provides more guidance to new users via easy to understand checklist. Not to mention that higher Wix subscription tiers provide much more scalability for your business to grow and function in contrast to Webs.

Pricing

First of all, Wix offers way more features than Webs, although at nearly double the cost. Now, don’t be discouraged by this, as Webs is extremely outdated, and its plans do not provide you with enough to fully warrant the cost.

Wix pricing plans start with a free plan and goes all the way up to $35/month for its most expensive subscription. Webs also start with a free plan, however its most expensive plan is only $22.99/mo, which is twice as cheap compared to Wix.

Now, you can build a fully functional website with Wix’s free plan. However, you will have to deal with ads on your site and will be forced to use a subdomain. It’s not the perfect option, but it’s a great way to test this platform for yourself.

All of Wix’s premium plans allow you to connect your own custom domain and even give you a free domain name for a year. The first Combo plan ($8.5/month) is the only one that limits bandwidth (2GB) and has just 3GB of storage.

Both the Unlimited ($14.5/month) and VIP ($26/month) plans offer unlimited bandwidth and increase the storage for up to 20GB. The VIP offers priority support in case you need technical assistance asap.

If you’re looking for online store features, Wix’s eCommerce plans start from $17/month for the Basic plan. The plan offers unlimited bandwidth, 20GB of storage, and the ability to receive online payments. This plan has all you need to launch small to medium-sized businesses online.

If you want to expand your business even further, Business VIP ($35/month) is the plan to go. It gives you VIP support and priority to your tickets and increases your maximum storage to 50GB.

Overall, it’s not cheap to start using Wix premium features, but they are definitely worth it, especially if you want to make professional websites for medium to large businesses.

Webs has free and paid pricing plans. You can create a website for free, but you will have unwanted advertisements all over your pages, just like with most free plans. To remove these ads and get a free domain for a year, you must upgrade to a premium plan.

All paid plans include a free domain and unlimited pages to add to your website. The cheapest plan, called Starter ($5.99/month), offers 1GB of storage, basic website statistics, and email-only support.

For small businesses, Webs offers the Enhanced plan ($12.99/mo) that expands storage to 5GB, allows advanced website statistics, and unlocks premium templates. This plan allows selling up to 20 products in the online store and also adds live chat support.

Businesses that need more resources will have to go with the Pro plan ($22.99/mo) that offers unlimited storage, unlimited products in the online store, SEO tools, and, finally, phone support.

WINNER: Overall, Wix offers a wider selection of plans compared to Webs, but they are more expensive. However, with more tiers of paid plans available, Wix allows scalability for your website as well as offers better value for your money.

Webs vs Wix Conclusion

In this comparison of Wix vs Webs, both platforms advertise their intuitive editing interfaces. While Wix is hard to get into and truly master with many various functions, Webs provides a simple interface yet sacrifices its design and feels dated.

Small and medium businesses can fully use the potential that Wix has with its modern templates and advanced eCommerce and SEO features. However, be ready to spend a few extra dollars and hours to experience everything the builder has to offer.

For those small websites that are on a budget, Webs is a possible alternative. However, they will come across an editor and templates that are super outdated.

At the end of the day, your choice is between more expensive Wix and its modern features and Webs – an outdated-looking builder that has all the basics but can’t offer anything great or innovative. Basically, you can either pay more for extra features or give a go to a less costly yet clunky and outdated platform.
