When it comes to writing a fantastic blog post without grammar and spelling errors, only a few tools can help. In this Grammarly review, I will show what it offers, what are the pros and cons of using, and what are the alternatives you can use.

The most common problem faced by non-native English speaker when writing is grammar and spelling mistakes. This is also true for me, as I’m not a native English speaker. I tend to make lots of common grammatical and spelling errors in my writing. Maybe you will also find some in this post.

Simple grammar and spelling mistakes can turn your readers off and distract them from the topic you are trying to write about.

We all know that quality content has proper grammar and is meaningful to the reader. But, it’s so easy for an error to slip through. You might be in a rush or you’re writing in a second language and not quite sure of the rules. Whatever reason, you need quality spell check tool.

You have several choices if you want to write better. You either study grammar, spelling, and everything else about writing, use a tool or plugin or you pay someone to check mistakes.

As mistakes can happen even if you are writing in your native language or if you are educated to write in a language which is main for your website, I prefer to go with spell check tool.

Below I will write about Grammarly (as I am using it daily) but will also mention other tools and ways for checking grammatical and spelling mistakes in your content. Some are free, and for some, you need to reach in your pocket.

Be noted, methods mentioned are mainly focused on English. There is significant chance they don’t support or your native language.

Grammarly Review

Grammarly is my favorite tool which I am currently using for proofreading of my content. It is not perfect, but it did significantly decrease my spelling mistakes and errors.

I am using premium version, but the free version will also do the trick for your website content fundamental mistakes.

Grammarly is an editor tool to help you with your writing. According to Grammarly, millions of people are using their tool to write perfect English, including writers, students, teachers, and journalists.

The free version of Grammarly checks for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. If you upgrade to a premium account, you get free version options and Grammarly will check word choice, clarity, passive voice use, wordiness, and plagiarism.

One of the features I really like in the premium version is the vocabulary enhancement. This feature gives you insight into overused words and what words would be better suited.

For instance, instead of the word ‘important,’ using the word ‘necessary’ will improve the sharpness of the writing. You will also get insight into weak adjectives and repetitive words in your content.

NOTE: Grammarly Editor is an online application, and there is no need to download any software. All you need is Internet access and a Grammarly account.

However, you can download tools to bring Grammarly to you wherever you write:

  • The Grammarly browser extension for Chrome, Safari, and Firefox.
  • Grammarly’s desktop app for your Mac or PC.
  • Grammarly for Microsoft Office.

How To Use Grammarly?

You log into Grammarly via a web browser. On the dashboard of this grammar checker, you can open a new document and start writing. Or you can paste your work into this new document for analysis.

After a few seconds, it underlines grammar mistakes similar to the Word. It also provides a detailed explanation about the reasons why you’ve made a mistake. Alternatively, you can install an extension in your web browser or a plug-in for Word.

 spell checker for wordpress

Grammarly offers free as well as premium plans. If you don’t want to pay for the service, then you can sign up for the free plan, download the browser extension (available for Chrome, Mozilla, and Safari) and correct all your grammatical errors.

Because the service offers you a browser extension, you will find it incredibly easy to locate and fix the errors on any website.

The extension will work even if you are updating your Facebook status, tweeting something, writing articles, or anything related to writing content. The Grammarly extension will scan your content and show you all the errors that need to be corrected.

You can turn off extension when you don’t need it and turn on again when you need it. Or you can just leave it on all the time. No need for login to Grammarly each time.

Using the Extension

Grammarly has a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari that makes proofreading even easier. It doesn’t matter if you are in email, WordPress, Facebook, or anywhere else, the browser extension will be there to help you see your mistakes and correct them quickly.

Even if you are using the free plan of the application, you can download and install the browser extension so you can work with Grammarly. When you have the extension installed, it will continuously scan the words and show the number of errors in the bottom-right corner.

 grammar check plugin wordpress

When you hover over that number, you will see a slide-in showing you the critical issues and advanced problems that need to be corrected. If you don’t see any errors, then you have no grammatical errors in your content.

Just click on the right choice from the list, and it changes the word for you instantly. You can hover over the word that is underlined. Grammarly will give you an explanation what’s wrong with that word choice.

Sometimes the suggested correction is there for you, but sometimes you have to click on “correct with Grammarly” and see the correction.

Grammarly doesn’t just show your grammar errors like spelling or punctuation mistakes. It shows you if you have used passive voice in a sentence and whether it needs to be changed to active voice.

Now all you have to do is click on the correct words on the right side, and the errors will be replaced with the correct version. As I already mentioned, it doesn’t just work with WordPress but with all other websites where you have to write content.

The tool isn’t always accurate when it comes to spelling and grammar. Sometimes it will recommend changing a word that you know you want to use. Especially when using slang or words that have multiple meanings.

You have to use some common sense before you go and change everything that the Grammarly extension suggests you to change.

how to disable grammarly extension

If you would like to disable Grammarly extension for any website, go to the site on which you would like to turn off the Grammarly extension (e.g., facebook.com, twitter.com, etc.) and click the “G” button and select “disable” (you need to be logged in).

You enable Grammarly extension for desired website following same steps. Grammarly scans your text for proper use of more than 250 advanced grammar rules, spanning everything from subject-verb agreement to article use to modifier placement.

Using the Grammarly Native App

Using the browser extension is incredibly simple and saves you a lot of time because the scanning process happens in real-time. But there are times when you might not be able to use the extension.

Grammarly offers a native app for your Windows and Mac computer. The native app allows you to access the Grammarly editor directly from your desktop.

The desktop app has the same capacity as the online editor at grammarly.com as both of these tools use the same set of algorithms to detect mistakes and suggest corrections.

With a desktop application, you don’t have to copy and paste documents into Microsoft Word or into the browser application to proofread them. Instead, it is far easier.

Just drag and drop the document into the Grammarly application on the desktop and it will automatically check for grammar mistakes.

You can get access to Grammarly without going to the app online. You just add it to your desktop, and you can do your writing directly in the app from your desktop and still get all the writing suggestions that the online Grammarly app has.

Using the Web Version of Grammarly

You can either upload your entire document by clicking on the Upload button or click on the New button to copy and paste your content. Once you have uploaded or copied your entire article in the editor area, grammar checker tool will proofread it completely to find any errors.

Now you simply need to click on the correct words on the right side and they will replace the errors and proofread the article.

Make sure you go into your profile and section which language you want to write in. As of this Grammarly review, there is only American English and British English, but there is a difference in some spelling, punctuation, and grammar, so it is important to select the appropriate language for you.

Using Grammarly Add-In for Microsoft Office

Another amazing way to use Grammarly is to download the Microsoft Add-In for Word and Outlook. The Microsoft Add-In works if you have a premium version.

Once it downloads to your computer, click on it to set up, and then go through the user-friend setup. Just select if you want to add to Word or Outlook, or both, and then click install. Once you install it, you will see a heading called ‘Grammarly’ at the end on the top bar in your Word documents.

Grammarly Add-In for Microsoft Office

Just as in the online editor, you just click on the suggestions given to make quick changes or learn more. You also have the option to undo the last change.

It will now start showing you all the grammatical errors, punctuation mistakes, etc. It will also show you some redundant words that can be removed from the article, or you can just ignore them and keep those words.

NOTE: At the moment, Grammarly does not offer an MS Word or Pages add-in for Mac users.

Easily Check Your Content

If you have a content written somewhere else, you can copy it into the Grammarly to check for mistakes. All you have to do is click on ‘New’ and copy your document into the editor. If you have document, you can click Upload to upload a document from your computer.

On the left side be sure to click on the writing tool icon, and make sure spelling, style, grammar, punctuation, and structure are clicked to ‘On’ (more or fewer features depending if you are using free or paid plan). You can also choose what type of document you are writing by hovering over the ‘Document Type.’

 wordpress proofreading

All the suggested revisions will be on the right side of the page. This is very user-friendly. You simply hover over each suggestion listed to see where in the text the suggestion is being made for, and then you can click on the suggestion to expand it and get a more detailed explanation.

If a word, such as a name, is being prompted for a correction, you can add it to the dictionary so that Grammarly views it as a correctly spelled word in the future.

If you just want to ignore the suggestion Grammarly gives altogether, then you can just click on Ignore.

You can also undo a correction you just made if you realize afterward that what you had was correct. Just click on ‘Undo’ that pops up after you make a correction, and your correction is undone. When you are done correcting your document, you can copy and paste it back into the program you were initially using.

Helps Improve Writing

You will be surprised at how you make the same mistakes over and over again. I know that I tend to overuse some words and consistently make the same grammar mistakes. It takes a while to change your automated way of writing. Grammarly helps you see those bad writing habits and fix them.

wordpress spell check tool

You can download a report of any document that you put into the Grammarly app. It will include the text and the mistakes that are made so that you can reference it later. To download your report, click on your score in the bottom right of Grammarly. You can click on ‘Download detailed report’ to get a full report saved on your computer in a PDF.

Vocabulary Enhancement

This feature will scan the article and find the words that are repeated. It will then suggest different words with the same meaning. You can replace these words with the suggested words.

suggest different words with the same meaning

Plagiarism Checker

In premium version, you can also enable the plagiarism option. This feature will tell you how original your document is, and the unoriginal text will be included in the suggested corrections.

WordPress free plagiarism checker

This comes in hand if you are the client who purchases the articles from other writers. You need a tool to check if the articles are original or copied. When you enable it, the tool will scan the complete article and compare it with its database of 8 billion pages to show you if it is original or not.

You can also check other best plagiarism checker tools if you need Grammarly plagiarism alternative.

How To Use Grammarly With WordPress?

How well does Grammarly work with WordPress? If you write blogs or any content on your WordPress website, you can choose any of available options to work with Grammarly.

I use Chrome browser, so I have Grammarly Chrome extension installed and enabled when I write in default WordPress editor. When writing within the post editor, you can automatically correct the issues with Grammarly.

I personally turn off Grammarly extension until I am done with writing content so that it doesn’t distract me with all places where I made a mistake. When I finish, I enable it to correct any spelling or grammatical errors.

 wordpress grammar checker

If you use Microsoft Word to write posts, you can continue using it and add Grammarly as an add-on within your Microsoft Word.

Grammarly is not just a tool to proofread the article and check for any grammatical mistakes. It is much more than that because it gives you the ability to make sure that your article is perfect.

What Are Grammarly Limitations?

As of this Grammarly review, there are a few limitations:

1. Doesn’t take large documents

When you upload a document, you can’t upload past 20 pages or 36,000 symbols. They say that they are working on increasing the amount you can upload, but, for now, if you have a story you are working on or an eBook, then you will need to upload it piece by piece to check it out.

You can upload a document which size is under 4 MB. Supported document types are MS Word (.doc, .docx), OpenOffice (.odt), .txt and .rtf.

2. Doesn’t find all mistakes

Grammarly will sometimes not find all mistakes. Especially in the first run check. Also, don’t just accept all suggestions Grammarly gives you. Read content yourself and check if it makes perfect sense in your head. Internet slang and common words you use in your everyday speech will be questioned by Grammarly.

3. Document limitation

In any 30-day period, you can check up to 300 documents or 150,000 words. In any 24-hour period, you can check up to 100 documents or 50,000 words. (If you are an Enterprise Subscriber, this restriction applies to each of your Authorized Users.)

4. Page limitation

You can check up to 60 pages at a time when you use Grammarly’s Editor at grammarly.com. There is no page limitation if you use Grammarly for Microsoft Word and Outlook.

5. Computer limitation

Premium membership allows access to Grammarly on up to five different computers.

What is Grammarly Proofit?

Proofit is an optional service, offered in addition to a Grammarly Premium subscription. If you are short on time and need to make sure your writing is mistake-free, you can submit your pages to Grammarly proofreaders.

They will check the text with Grammarly for you, and carry out the appropriate corrections. Be noted that Grammarly proofreaders will not reorganize, restructure, or otherwise rewrite your text.

If you want to submit your text to the proofreaders, click the green button in the left-hand navigation bar and press “Send to proofreader.” It may take up to 24 hours to be done.

Professional Proofreading is an optional service, provided separately from your Grammarly Subscription. Pricing options: Instant – $0.12 per word, 3 hours – $0.06 per word, 24 hours – $0.02 per word. Charges are calculated according to the number of words in your document.

NOTE: You must have an active Grammarly Premium subscription to use professional proofreading service.

The Price of Grammarly – Free vs Paid

If you decide that free version is not enough for your needs, you can consider paid pricing plan. Grammarly premium costs $29 per month. The premium version will help you identify more grammar errors in your content, and it will provide detailed information about each error.

Grammarly is a tool that does a lot, so it costs more than some other tools. But, the stuff you get when you pay for it is worth it if you write a lot, and you want to write well. I highly recommend the premium version for students and professionals who want their writing to stand out and impress.

grammarly free vs premium version

If you want to try out everything that Grammarly has to offer, but you are not sure if you are going to like it, you can try it out for seven days and take advantage of the money back guarantee.

This guarantee is available for first-time buyers only, but it gives you seven days from purchase to try out the software and figure out if it is for you. If you decide you don’t like it, you will be refunded for whatever price you paid. Grammarly offers discounts for quarterly and annual subscriptions.

There are three different plans available:

1. Monthly Plan – This plan costs $29.95 per month. The beauty of this is that you can cancel whenever you want to. But, it is definitely going to cost you more than paying for several months together like in the next two plans.

2. Quarterly Plan – This plan costs $19.98 per month, and it is billed in one payment of $59.95. It gives you three full months of Grammarly without having to worry about a monthly payment.

3. Annual Plan – This plan costs $11.66 per month, and it is billed in one payment of $139.95. It gives you a full year of Grammarly, so it is the best option for people who need to make sure their writing is accurate for a long time such as writers, bloggers, or students.

The monthly, quarterly, and annual plan will automatically renew, so if you do not want to pay again, you will have to cancel before the time for renewal is up.

There is also discount pricing volume for education facilities.

Grammarly Advantages & Disadvantages

Here are some benefits and drawbacks of using Grammarly as your proofreading tool.

GRAMMARLY PROS

  • Plagiarism checker checks for text that Google might consider as copied.
  • Easy to use
  • Grammarly offers a knowledgebase and comprehensive usage manual with screenshots. You can post questions to an online forum and interact with other users. There is a FAQs page and telephone support. Grammarly does not offer live chat.
  • It has free version which can be enough for most users
  • Grammarly has multiple options to fit your writing style and systems such as their browser extension and Microsoft extension.
  • The correction explanation and grammar reports help you improve your grammar over time.
  • Useful for non-native English speakers and new writers
  • Corrects over 250 types of spelling, punctuation vocabulary, and grammatical errors.
  • Available as a web app, desktop software and as a Microsoft Office Add-in
  • Works everywhere on the Web including WordPress editor

GRAMMARLY CONS

  • Supports only English
  • It has page and document limitations
  • The auto-save function of Word is disabled when you enable Grammarly. You better save checking your document with Grammarly until the very end of your writing process.
  • When you download the text from the online Grammarly app, it is downloaded onto notepad, and all the wording runs together. It’s better just to copy and paste it into Word or another editor you are working in, and then save it.
  • Not a replacement for a human proofreader or an education
  • Grammarly is inaccessible offline, and users must have an internet connection in order to make the best use of the software
  • Grammarly Add-in for Microsoft Office doesn’t work on Macs
  • Sometimes when editing a WordPress post and Grammarly extension is enabled, paragraphs of text are duplicated (I read other have the same problem. Don’t know if it is WordPress related).
  • No free trial
  • Doesn’t work well with Gutenberg editor

Who Is Grammarly Good For?

Grammarly is an excellent grammar and spelling checker if English isn’t your first language. It will help you check for grammar, spelling and punctuation mistakes.

It acts as a line of defense, which you can use to make sure your book, article or blog post is accurate and easy to read.

Everyone who has to write for other people will love Grammarly. This includes individuals who write on blogs, ghostwriters, website writers, employees, business owners, and anyone who wants to write quality content on the Internet or social media.

grammarly weekly report example

Grammarly Weekly Report Example

Whether you are in forums and want to be taken seriously, or writing posts, emails, or articles for others to read, it is important to present yourself in a professional manner.

If you are a student, Grammarly is a must-have. Not only will it help you with grades, essays, reports, and reviews, but it will help you learn how to write better.

If you are writing an eBook, then this is software you will want to add to Office Word. You can check your writing as you go along. None of your text will be shared with any third parties or used for any other purposes besides checking your documents.

Alternatives You Can Use

Grammarly isn’t the only online tool that can be used for proofreading. There are plenty of other options to choose from. I will mention some Grammarly alternatives.

#1 Microsoft Office (PAID)

All Office programs can check the spelling and grammar of files. You can check spelling and grammar all at once by running the spelling and grammar checker, or you can check it automatically and make corrections as you work.

Though Grammarly isn’t a substitute for Microsoft Word or any other editors, I still think it is a better choice for English related content.

#2 Google Docs (FREE)

Google Docs is the online word processor application integrated with Google Drive. Google Docs have a built-in spelling and personal dictionary option, and it works well with basic writing. Spell checking is available in different languages and is really easy to use.

You just need to open the document. Then click on the File Menu > Language and select the language in which the document is drafted from the drop-down list.

Now go to the Tools menu > Spelling. Google Docs will check for errors and prompt you to make the necessary corrections. Click on the Change button to correct a misspelled word.

It should be noted that the spell check feature of Google Docs is not fail proof and sometimes the proposed corrections won’t match to the context of the text. In such cases, you can click on Ignore to move to the next suggestion or add the word/term to your dictionary if you intend to use it again in your text.

NOTE: Grammarly currently doesn’t work with Google docs.

#3 Jetpack Spelling and Grammar (FREE)

If you use WordPress and are one of the million users of the popular Jetpack WordPress plugin, you might already be using the “Spelling and Grammar” module. If you haven’t seen yet, just go to the Jetpack settings and activate that module. Once activated, you can go to settings and define what you want.

Jetpack Spelling and Grammar module is better than not having anything at all. Also, it seems to get better over time learning your writing habits.

Compared to Grammarly, Jetpack is not so advanced and doesn’t always suggest you with the best options. Nonetheless, Jetpack can help you figure out several fundamental errors.

Spelling and Grammar module actually started as a separate plugin called After the Deadline and then got included into the main Jetpack structure. Once you activate that module, it adds an advanced spell checking functionality to your WordPress editor.

Jetpack Spelling and Grammar module

The proofreading feature checks spelling, misused words, grammar, and style. You can tell the type of error by its color. Misused words and spelling errors are red, grammar mistakes are green, and style suggestions are blue.

Many errors have an Explain option that provides more information. You can click Ignore suggestion to ignore a phrase once, or click Ignore always to have WordPress permanently ignore selected word. You can configure which rules and issues the plugin should be checking.

wordpress grammar check plugin

Once you’re done working on a post, you can just click the checker icon. After a couple of seconds, you will see some recommendations.

Each word or phrase that doesn’t fit will be underlined. Clicking on the word/phrase gives you a pop-up where you can see what’s wrong, get suggestions on how to fix it, and also see an explanation of why there’s an issue.

Overall, the functionality is not as advanced as Grammarly’s, but it’s still a great tool that can help you improve your writing.

Jetpack Spelling and Grammar module is the only worthy WordPress spell check plugin (in time of writing this) that offers any real grammar and spell fixing functionality. Everything else is either more than a year old and abandoned or provides just basic features. Jetpack module can proofread posts written in English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.

#4 Ginger (FREE and PAID)

Ginger is a tool developed by a company called Ginger Software. It operates and looks similar to Grammarly. The good thing about Ginger is that you get versions for different systems. Windows app, iOS, Android, Chrome extension, Safari extension.

When it comes to the desktop version, the Ginger tool has some downsides. For example, even though there is a Chrome extension available, it doesn’t actually integrate with the text input fields on websites.

ginger grammarly alternative

The extension opens an additional editor pop-up where you can copy-paste your post or content. This can be problematic if you just want to check a post quickly. For example, if you have any links in your text, they will vanish once you copy it back from Ginger.

The grammar-checking capabilities of Ginger are very efficient. Where Ginger falls behind regarding usability, it makes up for it in the quality of the grammar and spelling checks.

how to proofread content in WordPress editor

Ginger doesn’t only proofread and correct your content. It also helps you learn from your mistakes. Aside from the grammar checker and spell checker, there is the learning center feature.

That helps you see personally-tailored detailed reports on your own mistakes and can track your progress. Grammarly has the same characteristic.

Ginger feature summary:

  • Apps/plugins for Windows, iOS, Android, Chrome, Safari.
  • Advanced grammar checker.
  • Sentence rephrase – Lets you see different ways to phrase your text.
  • Translation tools (40 languages).
  • Dictionary – Helps you understand the meaning of the words you use.
  • Supports only English corrections.
  • Ginger doesn’t work offline. It needs the Internet connection.

With Ginger’s free version you have a certain weekly limit. Once the weekly limit is reached, Ginger still displays corrections for misspelled words, but you have to enter the corrected word manually.

On the following Monday, the capacity is reloaded, and you can enjoy Ginger’s corrections until the capacity has been used up again.

There are also two paid pricing plans:

  • Basic – $61.20 / year ($5.10 / month) billed annually. Or $6.40 / month billed monthly.
  • Premium – $111 / year ($9.25 / month) billed annually. Or $11.20 / month billed monthly.

For more information about Ginger features, as well as pros and cons, be sure to check my Ginger review.

#5 Hemingway (FREE)

Hemingway started as an online-only text editor that offered a unique way to improve people’s writing, based on the style of author Ernest Hemingway, renowned for his brief sentences and simple language.

Hemingway is a bit different from other mentioned tools. Even though Hemingway will let you know about an odd-looking word here and there, its primary job is to improve the overall readability of your content.

To do that, it highlights whole sentences that are either hard to read or very hard to read. Then, it’s up to you to do something about that.

hemingway check your wordpress post readability

Hemingway is available either as an online tool or a Hemingway Editor app for Mac and Windows. There are no browser extensions or other types of integrations.

For someone working with WordPress, this means you have to copy-and-paste your content to Hemingway, do your job there, and then copy it back to WordPress.

Hemingway is a visual tool. It uses different colors according to the seriousness of a given problem found in your post. For instance, sentences very hard to read are red, hard to read are yellow, and so on.

When it comes to using the tool, you just have to hover over a given phrase and Hemingway will give you suggestions. In my opinion, Hemingway is a great tool but not quality enough for doing WordPress spell check of posts like Grammarly can provide.

Price: The web tool is completely free. The desktop editor is $6.99 one-time payment (at the time of writing this).

#6 WhiteSmoke (PAID)

WhiteSmoke is a grammar-checking software released by WhiteSmoke Inc.  The company offers products to help students, writers, businesses, and others, to improve their writing.

WhiteSmoke is equipped with a plagiarism checker tool that allows you to check the uniqueness of your texts, aside from just checking the grammatical and spelling errors of your writing.

The Plagiarism Checker tool from WhiteSmoke helps you to analyze the part of your text that is not unique, and it gives you the list of various online publications that already have the same text as yours.

WhiteSmoke provides grammar-checking tool that helps correct even the smallest grammatical errors in your writing. Not only it helps to detect grammar errors within your text, it also helps to offer suggestions as to how to correct each mistake.

Grammarly vs Ginger vs Jetpack vs WhiteSmoke

Many grammar-checker tools don’t have a style checker feature to check the writing style errors in a text. The Style Checker feature can be applied to your writing to ensure that you are writing according to the general rules of writing.

The software has an accurate spelling and punctuation checker that doesn’t mistake a popular product name with a spelling error.

Price: With two available pricing plans, you can either choose the WhiteSmoke Web or Premium plan. Each plan has flexible payment options like monthly, quarterly, yearly including the option to buy a lifetime license for the software.

Fore more info about WhiteSmoke, as well as its pros and cons, be sure to check my WhiteSmoke review.

Grammarly Review Conclusion

You would be surprised by the amount of grammar or spelling mistakes that can be found in most texts, even those written by native speakers of the language. Such mistakes can be quickly corrected with proper spelling and grammar checker.

Spelling errors can be caused by typos, phonetic mistakes, severe spelling mistakes, and misused words. Grammatical errors can range from anything like the correct usage of singular vs. plural, to misused tenses.

Grammarly is thorough and accurate. It has a high Accuracy Score and recognizes a variety of common grammatical errors. However, it does not catch every. Grammarly should not be considered the final word in spelling, syntax, and grammar, but it is a helpful aid.

You can also check out Analyze AcademicHelp which is a paper analysis service that allows students to analyze their written assignments before they are submitted to their teachers and CorrectEnglish which allows you to check the quality of your writing, including grammar, sentence structure, organization, word choice, and more.

And if you need Google Doc-style editorial commenting plugin that makes it easier and quicker to share editorial feedback – Multicollab is great choice. It works with Gutenberg editor, allowing you features like the ones Google Docs provides.

Here are my recommendations:

 a) The free option – Use Grammarly free version or a combination of Jetpack module and Hemingway. They will give you a great overall grasp on the issues with your writing and how to fix them.

 b) Step up your game To get more features and get the most when checking spelling mistakes, try Grammarly, Ginger or WhiteSmoke.

I would personally recommend Grammarly as it provides you with great value and basically all you need in terms of grammar checking and making your writing better.

While it might be difficult to choose the best proofreading tool that you can use for your business, you can pick the best one by looking most important aspects.

First, the tool should offer accurate grammar checking features that help to improve the overall quality of your writing. Second, you need to choose between desktop and web-based software according to your need. And third, you have to pick the one that offers additional features that might be useful for your business.

Hope this Grammarly review was helpuf. If you’ve used Grammarly or any other tool for checking your content, let me know your thoughts and experiences in comments below.

  1. Thanks for this amazing Grammarly review. Grammarly is definitely worth the money. We’ve been using Grammarly for six years now, and it’s been a game-changer for our writing. The real-time grammar and spell check are so handy, especially when we are working on important documents. It’s like having a writing assistant by our side!

  2. Thank you for in depth review, this is the most detailed review I’ve ever seen.

My English written isn’t good, and I’m interested to try Grammarly, but it cost $29/month, at that price I can hire a native speaker to proof read on fiverr for $5, 6 times.

Do you think it’s worth ? or it’s better to stick to human proof read ?

    1. Hi Doni,

Grammarly would still be cheaper option compared to hiring someone to do it for you on Fiverr. Grammarly allows you to use it whole month as much as you want which saves money comapred to hiring someone on Fiverr. Not to mention that on Fiverr you need to find good freelancer.

Also, if you take Grammarly annual plan it will be even cheaper. Don’t forget that Grammarly also offers free plan.

  3. I was using Grammarly Premium on my WP site and was perfectly happy. However, it no longer underlines any of my text at all. I don’t know if this is an update on the WP site itself that caused the issue. It appears to work on other sites such as when I’m typing this message. So now I have to look for an alternative. It’s a news website so I can’t be without spellcheck, unfortunately. 🙁

  4. That one has gotten some really scary reviews about deleting data etc
I REALLY wish there was a solution that checked your ENTIRE SITE constantly and notifies you of all the mstakes like broken links checker. That will happen one day and I can’t wait!

    1. You should try TripleChecker – they can scan your entire website for spelling, grammar, and broken links and notify about new errors weekly or daily.

  5. When I started my writing career, I only used Hemingway, genuinely enjoyed it. However, as search becomes more and more important, my articles need some more attention in the search optimization department. INK has been helping me improve tremendously in this regard. Would love to read your thoughts on the INK app vs. Hemingway.

    1. Thanks, Kris for letting me know. I didn’t know that. I only enable extension when I need to proofread and disable it after I finish checking so didn’t experience those issues.

  6. As a blogger, I have to keep a check on the quality of my page contents, particularly when English is not my primary language. Many of us give most time in choosing topic according to the targeted audience, producing drafts, rewriting the final article, but we rarely spend much time to proofread. Proofreading is a necessary part of any article; it helps you to increase the quality of an article.

This is the well-made collection of proofreading tools. Even these are excellent tools, but there is nothing reliable than manual proofreading. But these tools are a great way to begin proofreading your documents to check quick errors. You should also work to keep a control on common mistakes that you do so that you don’t repeat your errors while writing something.

Thanks for sharing your tools; hopefully, this will be more suitable for bloggers, students and freelance writers to write errorless writings.

    1. Yes, proofreading is an important part for any website owner who also writes and publishes articles. Especially if you write in a language which is not your primary.

  7. This is best comparison of tools for checking grammar for usage on a WordPress site. I was checking several posts and this one is most informative.

I think I will be going with Grammar free version for now.

  8. Christopher Jan Benitez

Awesome post. Based on your review, Grammarly Premium stands tall as the best and easiest editing and proofreading tool to use. I also share the same sentiments on my Grammarly Premium review: http://christopherjanb.com/blog/grammarly-premium-review I love how you can improve the word choices in your post as the tool will provide you with suggestions that you can replace the original words with. Granted, not all suggestions are correct, but they help diversify the word usage in your content.

Hemingway is also a good choice but offers limited editing features, thus preventing your content from becoming completely error-free.

I haven’t tried Whitesmoke and Ginger yet, but I will in the future. Also, I suggest that you give ProWritingAid a shot as well. It’s a more thorough, albeit more complicated, editing tool for your content needs.

    1. Thank you, Christopher for letting me know about ProWritingAid. I must admit I didn’t hear for it before. I will check it out and maybe even add few lines about it in post.
